Diy - Sleeping Bag aka Infant Sleepsack

My son kicks his blankets off ALWAYS. So when we go camping or even for just at night it is nice to know I now have something to stay on him no-matter what... and the tough part about having no mobility... solved.

I made it open at the bottom with velcro for a few reasons.

For diaper changing
So his legs can slide out if he wants to move around
and for convenience

So here is my simple tutorial. Promise its So easy!!

Materials Needed:

2 Fabrics (amount depends on child. I used one yard of each for this project) also pay attention to weight of fabrics.... for warmer pick a flannel for lighter probably dont pick minky.
4 Buttons
Velcro
Double sided Iron-on adhesive (for owl)
pants shirt and socks from child for measurments

Lets get started.

Step 1.
I like to use Tissue Paper to make a pattern. So lay out Tissue Paper on hard Surface (use 2 sheets if you need and tape together) and lay out shirt, pants and socks for length Measurment and trace. I added about 3 or 4 inches length so it can grow with him for a little while.

Trace wide leaving room for seam allowance. 1/4 inch- 1/2
Add straps to tracing at the top.

Step 2
Cut on fold of fabric to skip sewing one side. Repeat with lining Fabric.

Step 3
Place face sides together and pin.

dont forget to leave a pull through opening for turning right side out
The arrow at top shows where to cut for arm opening

Sew .

Step 4 -
Again turn Right sides together (brown) and sew around edges.
**MAKE SURE TO LEAVE AN ARM OPENING AND A BOTTOM OPENING **

Step 5 - Sew in velcro at shoulder straps and bottom of bag.

And its embellishments from here! Add any shape you want and covor velcro with buttons if its your forte! Happy sewing!!

Organized in Style- Mod Podge Project

So simple SO Fast
and so fun to do with kids!

So Here's the Fun Project of late!
I was kinda tidy'ing up my bathroom sinkish area and was feeling so bleh about how I had everything organized. I was using this Plain old plastic drawer thing from Walmart.
So I decided it was time to spice it up!

So grab any old organizer of yours,
some Mod Podge,
your favorite fabric
and go to town!!

And turn this ...

into this..

How To:

Clean all surfaces
trace surface onto wrong side of fabric
cut out all sides (to save fabric I only did the 3 visible sides)
Cut out Handle Covers
mod podge fabric to all surfaces(do a few coats)
Hot Glue any embelishments
Embrace :)

Very Simple. More for inspiration than for direction! So what can you spice up in a room of yours? Go a little crazy!

This is such a fun project to do for a kids bathroom or bedroom!

Wedding Hair Piece

Old Sweater= Chunky Scarf -Guest Blogger

I’ve been seeing all these really cute chunky scarves all over the place, and since I don’t know how to knit,
I cheated and made one out of an old sweater that I had….

Materials and Instructions -
I used the whole back of the sweater and then added on another panel from the sleeves to make it long enough. I wanted it to look very cabin/rough-hewn/handmade-ish and I think I achieved that, maybe a little too much haha. I made the buttons myself from some oak branches, and sanded and stained them lightly, and then drilled 2 holes in each. I hand-stiched around all the edges with some thick cotton string that I thrifted to help with fraying and to give added texture

I am totally a fan of Pride and Prejudice, Emma, that style of movie

So I was thrilled to see the beatuful Emily Blunt

performing in such a great film! It about time!
So I took off too...

And I whole Heartedly give it

Great Story, Love, Romance, Laughter,Tension, Independence, just lovely!

For some reason it isn't in all theatres and I think That is ridiculous but find a theatre near you and see it... You wont regret it!

Bottle Cap Frame!
So somple to make and so versitile!

Materials Needed:

*Frame
*Misc Coordinating Scrapbook paper
*Bottle Caps (enough to fit around frame)
*Mod Podge
*Hot Glue
*Scissors

1. Paint the Frame
2.Cut paper circles to mod podge inside the bottlecaps
3. Once mod podge dry hot glue Bottle Caps to frame

And Whala... your masterpiece!

Hot Cocoa Bliss

When I married my husband... I learned a great Secret...

My Father'n Law made this delectible treat in the winter that I fall in love with over and over again every winter season! Hot Cocoa Like I had never had before!!

You usually either are not so into it or LOVE it and will never go back! CMC
aka Canned Milk Cocoa
Ingredients:
2 Cans - evaporated milk
4 C- water
1 C - Sugar
1T - unsweetened cocoa powder

*Mix Powders in a bowl together
*Mix liquids in Sauce Pan

**Combine powder with liquid and let simmer a few min. then serve with a dollop of Whipped Cream or Marshmallows.**

And Enjoy! Its so yummy!!
(Also fabulous with red hots)

and had one of these metal guys laying around that I picked up at a garage sale!

... it looked so bleh...

so I Spray painted it

and it became my new little nightstand for the Guest Room in our Home!

Industrial yet it still goes with the vintage feel of the room! And I got it at a yard sale!

Odds and Ends...

What can you do with scraps...

with all your odds and ends.?

Today I wanted to have a little fun
So I grabbed a few of my scraps
and some different textures and accessories
and came up
with
this!

Its a little nuts but super fun!

Materials Used:
Headband , Hemp
leather, cotton fabric, silk, pearls, trim,
costume bead necklace,
Vintage Button, and Lace.

Gather your odds and ends and be brave and see what you can create.

Remember... One of the keys to coordination is TEXTURE!!

Simple Stocking Project

I had the dilemma on what to do about stockings...

I want eventually all my kids to match, but the problem is that

I dont know how many kids I am going to have yet.

So I don't want to buy any because what if I don't get enough or too many ect...

So I made a simple pattern and now every time I have another little one I can make him or her their own!!

So here is how you do it!

I STARTED AND FINISHED THIS IN 25 MIN. PROMISE ITS QUICK!

Materials Needed-

Tissue Paper
marker
1 yard fabric
embellishments
fabric for toe and heel
ribbon
1 sheet Felt

PREP-

1. Trace a stocking or draw the size you want the stocking onto tissue paper. Then cut it out (This is our forever Patten, so dont throw it away. Label it and put it in a plastic baggie.)

2. Fold fabric to create double layer and cut out one set outside fabric and one set inside.

3. Cut out felt for top lining. The trick to this is really just to cut zig zags across it long ways and the two pieces together make the top lining. Set aside.

4. cut out toe and heel embellishments.

Sewing -

1. First sew the tow and heel on each side of outer fabric's. make sure they match up when the two pieces are combined.

2. then place face to face the two sock pieces together and sew 1/4 inch seam along outside.
(repeat with white inside pieces)

3. Turn sock inside out and inner white right side out and put the black sock into the white sock wrong sides together.

4. cut ribbon for hanging and place in desired space. sew around the top and pull the entire thing through so the black is on the outside.

Your stocking should look like this now...

5. now fold the felt piece over the top to cover the unfinished top. Sew around and cut hole where ribbon is and pull through.

6. once sewn add other embellishments Like....

Pom-poms
Ribbons
Trimmings
Iron on letters for the persons name

use your imagination!!

Have fun! Go Wild!

And remember to save your pattern so if you want to make another one... they all coordinate!!

Does something ever happen to you where you just think...

Wow... that was sweet! Wait,
Rewind, that could'nt have been real!!

Well....

My dad called me today and said:
"Amy, I have a present for you! Are you Home?"
Very Excited I Exclaimed:

"Absolutly!!!"

And 20 min later he arrived at my house with this...

My new $5 Dressform!!

But the fact that not even is he a Male, but My Dad brought this to me... makes him a Rad Dad.

And whats better when he delivered it he said:

"I bought this because you like this stuff for your boutique decorating and stuff right?"

Wow! I love him! Great Find Dad!

So he makes the Garage Sale Find of the Year in my book!!

I am going to get plenty of good use out of this!

A reflective thought for the holidays.

My mother always had this poem hanging in our home and on occasion I would Stop and read it and think about what I could do to better my life and those around me. Wherever and whenever in my life I read it, it always had had the same meaning but different inspirations and ideas. There are so many inspiring and uplifting stories and poems out there. But I wanted to share this one which has effected my life...

I promise its worth your time to read...

Compensation

I'd like to think when life is done
That I had filled a needed post
That here and there I'd paid my fare
With more than Idle Talk and Boast
That I had taken gifts divine,
The breath of life and manhood fine,
And tried to use them now and then
In service for my fellow men.

DIY $3.00 Pie/Cake Platter

I came across this project and HAD to repost here here to share with all of you!!
Such a Perfect project for the holidays!! Especially because you have to serve so many yummies!! So get to your local thrift store and get goin on this! So here is her post!!

Previously I haven't gone to Goodwill or Salvation Army often because there was not one close to my old home. However, now there is a Goodwill right across the street from our local Lowes. Since we seem to stop there at least one every two weeks (ok, we stop there at least once a week), I have started stopping in regularly. Like many thrift shops, it is hit or miss. I have not had many hits (a lamp which will be featured later this month) and the items found in today's post. When I saw this platter and ice cream sundae dish, I knew that I had to get them. Especially since at $1.99 and $0.99, they wouldn't break the bank.

(Note to self: do not take pics of glass items on my light colored countertop)

You see, we had our housewarming party coming up and I needed something tall and flat to put the plates on for the buffet. Why tall you ask? Beause I wanted it able to be placed in the middle of the table with napkins scattered around it. I was afraid a regular cake plate would not be tall enough to do this. These were the perfect solution. A little glass glue (purchased at the Lowes across the street) and I was ready to go.

To secure the two pieces together, apply the glue according to the package directions to the bottom of the platter. Mine had three little feet and a circular pattern in the center of the platter so it was easy to see where the glue would need to be applied.

(Another note to self: See about getting a tripod or

having Hubs to take the pics when I am gluing

since apparently I cannot take pics with one hand)

Place the sundae dish upside down onto the platter and press for 30 seconds to ensure a strong bond.

Once the two pieces are secured, turn right side up and let sit for 24 hours before using.

While I don't have a pic of the piece in use at the actual party (I got distracted with getting the food on the table in time), here is a recreation.

Total cost:

$0.99 Sundae dish

1.99 Glass serving platter

1.15 Glass glue (I figure I used about 1/3 of the mini tube) $3.13 TOTAL

There are so many fun and creative ways to use Magnetic things! Here are a few simple ideas for you!

With a couple coats of Magnetic Paint ... or various pieces of metals combined in a frame, or coating an entire fridge in Paint... How fun!!
So here you are.. Go crazy with it!

Okay so this is more a chalk Board Feature... but I just love it!
So Deal! :)

Here you just tape off a square..put a few coats of magnetic paint , then a top coat of your choice!! Easy and Simple... Yet so functional!

For this project, cutting sheet metal would be the easiest... but not everyone wants to buy heavy duty snips...
So I say try and find an old frame at a thrift store or something that still has the glass and paint magnetic paint on the glass then modge podge some fun photos or accessories to liven up the background!
You could do this project seriously within $10 if you snag a great frame at the thriftstore!

Personally
I love this one... all my magazine cut-outs and inspiration could be all over my wall but in a trendy and tidy fashion!

Beadboard for your home can be expensive as we all know..

but did you know it is actually not that hard to handle yourself?
There are So so many online DIY tutorials for Installing Beadboard!
Take it from somebody who has done it before! If you can find the time to just do one room on a Saturday, and repeat that till the rooms desired are completed... it saves Alot of money and is extremely satisfying!

If covering your walls is not your forte... here are a few more pieces of inspiration for projects with Beadboard.
You can buy it at any Home Depot or Lowes. So fun! Go crazy with it!

Did you know that you can go to walmart and pick up a plain old book shelf, line it in baseboard and beadboard and whala you have a chic classic bookshelf or entertainment center.

Line under a shelf for an added unique look.

Add some metal and paint with chalkboard to make a memo board on beadboard!

DIY Holiday Scenes

First off,
I want to start off by saying what an awesome weekend it has been!
The Sugarplum Boutique was so fun and we met so many fun new people and I have met some fun new faces!
So a big thanks to all who came out to have fun with us! You make it what it is!

I never cease to be amazed when we participate in new shows or host them at the talent that is out there! It is always so inspiring! But we got a few new ideas up our sleeves for some great inexpensive holiday decorations and great holiday GIVEAWAYS! Just you wait to see whats in store!

Today were going to start with a super easy idea!
ANYONE can do this... so simple, and such a small fun unique holiday home embellishment!

Materials Required:

Holiday themed Paper
White feathers (I just snipped mine from a white feather boa because I liked the shape of them.)
Snowflakes
Modge Podge/ Foam Brush Applicator
Piece of 6x6 wood (found at Walmart or Hobby Lobby
Backdrop Paint Color (Here I used Red crackle paint)

Start by painting your background color! (paint accordingly to brand and instructions. if Crackle complete those steps first.)
Then Put a layer Of Modge Podge once paint is dry
and place paper embellishments (like trees)
-wait about 20 min or til dry-
Then put as many coats as desired over the paper and piece of wood

Then With hot Glue apply feathers as desired and any more embellishments such as snowflakes, jewels, or any item that cannot have a finish over them.
and you have created your own easy to pack away, oh so cute and clever, 100% unique to you Christmas decor!

Yummy Banana Bread

Clouse House Banana Bread

This bread is so yummy! I make triple batches of it and take a few loaves to my neighbors! Its a big hit!

Warning: Once baked, can be addicting and cause you to even eat entire loaves yourself. Do not bake unless you have self control :)

Bake at 350 for 40 min
Yields: 2 short loaves

Ingredients:
3 LARGE mashed Bananas
1/2 C Sour Cream
1 Stick Melted Butter
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla
2 eggs

1 1/2 C Flour
1 C Sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking soda

Optional
Nuts
Chocolate Chips

Mix wet ingredients
Then Dry

Combine then add chocolate chips or nuts if desired.
Stick in two large greased Bread pans and bake for 40-45 min. Or until toothpick comes out clean!

And munch! Mmmm...

My Pressure Cooker. And My Bosch.

I started taking these cooking classes with my mom oh probably almost 2 years ago at Shars Bosch Center (which are free and amazing because she lets you taste EVERYTHING) and the long and the short of it is I discovered a whole other side of myself!

I always knew I loved Cooking... but I got to know the hardware and the simplicity (well with the right tools)

TWO of the BEST PURCHASES I have made in my life...

WHY? You may ask...

Let me tell you...
I use my Pressure Cooker on a DAILY basis. What other appliance can you say you use Daily?

I know what you thinking right? Scary!! But its not they will Never Explode on you Guarunteed!

With my pressure cooker... I can..

Cook any FROZEN Raw Meat in around 5 min or less (which is awesome for meals on the fly, that means no worrying about having to thaw your meat ahead of time and then accidentally forgetting about it!)
Cook any uncooked Rice in 3 min
I can make Cheesecake in 15
I can Deep Fry in it
Nothing sticks to the bottom EVER
Oh did I mention, It is Guaranteed NEVER to explode!
Its Dish washable
Its Pretty Stainless Steel
I can Can Fruit in my taller one
Marinating Mead in no longer necessary because
oh and so so many more things....

With My Bosch...

what can't I do.!?!?!

lets be honest from grating Cheese to Making dough in 5 ready to stick in the oven...

Incredible..

There is a blender, food proccesor, grater, dicer , french fry maker.. and the list goes on.

and my most favorite part EVER!....

**after I cook the chicken in 3 min in my pressure Cooker... I throw it straight into my Bosch.. and it shreds in 2 seconds. Perfect for chicken rolls, salads, Enchiladas, ect.

If you are in the market for cookware...

I strongly Recommend these products!!

P.s. did you know the only reason they dont use the Bosch on Food Network is because it is SPONSERED by Kitchen Aid. Otherwise... it would be history... and would be making way for a Bosch.

1 Yard Apron

This is the Apron in 1 Yard Tutorial

So easy to make and super cute and functional.
You can always use another apron...
even when were cooking and cleanin away we like to feel cute!

So here we go:

2 Materials Needed- Yes Only two

*1 yard of fabric. (if you want a different fabric for pockets... get that too:] )
*Ribbon

Step 1 - Hold one corner to chin and decide how long you want it to be and cut off lower corner. I cut of about 1 ft. But do it at the length you want or shorter to make a mommy daughter Set.

Step 2 -Sew around the entire piece 1/4inch seam folding under twice.

Step 3 -Fold in three corners leaving loop to stream ribbon through and Sew.

Step 4- Bring Ribbon Through Hoops. Tack neck ribbon in center, and tie the side ribbons in knots . (use a safety pin... this is just what was right near me! sorry :)

Pockets

Step 5- Cut your prefered size and shape of pockets. (For 2 fabric pockets like mine cut them extra tall then sew piece to opposite fabric.)

Step 6- Sew 1/4 seam around pockets

Step 7-by this time you should have the basic apron so try it on and figure our where you want your pockets to be placed. then pin them on and attach!

And your done!! Hooray!
Now go pick out your fabric...
that's the best part!

Pina-Colada Cream Pie..
Yield: 8 servings
Ingredients

Crust:
• 1 cup all-purpose flour, divided
• 3 tablespoons ice water
• 2 tablespoons sugar
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
• Cooking spray

 Filling:
• 1 (8 1/4-ounce) can crushed pineapple in heavy syrup
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 1/4 cup cornstarch
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 1/2 cups 1% low-fat milk
• 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
• 2 tablespoons cream of coconut (such as Coco Lopez)
• 1/4 teaspoon coconut extract
• 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 1/2 cups frozen fat-free whipped topping, thawed
• 1/4 cup flaked sweetened coconut, toasted

Preparation
Preheat oven to 425°.
To prepare crust, lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups, and level with a knife. Combine 1/4 cup flour and water; stir with a whisk until well-blended.
Combine 3/4 cup flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, and 1/8 teaspoon salt in a bowl; cut in shortening with a pastry blender or 2 knives until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add slurry; mix with a fork until flour mixture iYield: 8 servings

Remove pie weights and foil; cool crust on a wire rack.
To prepare filling, drain pineapple in a colander, and spoon into the prepared crust. Combine 3/4 cup sugar, cornstarch, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a saucepan, and stir in milk. Bring to a boil; cook for 1 minute, stirring with a whisk. Gradually add about 1/3 cup hot custard to beaten eggs; stir constantly with a whisk. Return egg mixture to pan. Cook for 2 minutes or until thick, stirring constantly. Remove mixture from heat; stir in cream of coconut and extracts. Spoon mixture into the prepared crust. Cover surface of filling with plastic wrap; chill until set (about 2 hours).
Remove plastic wrap, and spread whipped topping evenly over filling. Sprinkle with coconut.

Sink-Side Bath Mat

This Project is for anyone who can sew.
About as basic as it comes!

Having just had a baby myself... this for sure came in handy!
It is Sink-side bath mat to lay your baby on while you Sponge bath, prep for bath and wrap it all up! I love it because it adds padding on that tough counter. Yeah there is a towel but I personally always wanted to stack like 10 for my little guy! It was never soft enough... So now I have This!!

It is Fast, Easy, washable and Multi-functional! I now use mine as my Dishdrying mat!
It cuter than the old towel!

Materials Needed:

*Two Hand Towels (or for a larger one just fold a full size in half) (Just pick em up at Ross or TJ Max)

*Coordinating Ribbon

*Thread and Needle

*& Quilters Batting

Here are your simple Instructions!
1. Measure out Enough Batting to lay between the two towels. Leaving a 1/2 Inch to sew the edges together! Another great thing about this project... towel edges are already "Finished" for you. Much Faster.
2. Lay the batting between to towels and sew around edges following the trim of your towels.
3. Sew on your Ribbon of Choice
4. **IMPORTANT Step** You have to "quilt tie" the center. attaching the batting and towel together in the center to keep it all in place. Nothing fancy, just knots every couple inches!

And TADA!
Your done! You have you next baby shower gift or your next gift to yourself and your baby! Do Enjoy!

I came across this awesome piece while hoppin round the internet... and I got so excited!

Reading is so So so great for kids! And whats better a place designated for them to go and be in their own imaginative world to do it!

Designed in Japan, This Fancy bookcase is what I want for our loft! Throw some cozy beanbags or just some pillows and it becomes a childs escape from the real world into the world of literature, imagination, magic and adventure!

Here is a step by step set on how to do it...
The shelves are just wood and the roof is Felt

How fun and creative! Now I just gotta get my sweet husband to help me take it on... What will it take... some love and encouragment and probably a new sleeve of golf balls and I may just have him convinced! Anyone else willing to take on this project! How fun and unique for your little ones!

Let's dive in....

Here is what you'll need...

Two complimentary pieces of Fabric. I used FAT QUARTERS.
Stiff interfacing
Coordinating Double Folded Bias Tape
Pins or stapler
Ruler

STEP ONE: Measure and cut your fabric and Interfacing 18" x 18"

I found that by stacking them and then cutting them made the process faster and easier. Lay it out just how it will be sewn....a fabric with RIGHT side facing down, then interfacing, then fabric with RIGHT side facing up.

STEP TWO: Now we will be cutting out a section of your 18" square to create the Caddy straps. Using a ruler and pen mark off the following measurements and cut through all three layers creating straps that measure 7" long x 3" wide.

STEP THREE: Use straight pins to secure the three layers together. I prefer using a stapler . It lays flatter and the staples are easy to remove.

STEP FOUR: Adding the bias Tape.

You will first need to sew an 18" strip of Bias tape to the bottom section of the caddy.

STEP FIVE: Fold the bottom section in half leaving about a 1 1/2" gap. This is creating your pocket. be sure to be aware of the fabrics. You will determine what fabric shows most so chose wisely which way you fold. Secure with pins or staples.

STEP SIX: Now it's time to add the Bias Tape around the edges. Start at a top of a strap in it's middle. Pin it on if that will help you keep it straight. Sew it on using a straight stitch. Corners Can be pinned or stapled to help them line up right. The inside corners are tricky. Sew around it completely being sure to fold your tape at the very end so you don't have a raw edge.

STEP SEVEN: Sew a straight stitch line in your pocket making a second section in your pocket. You can determine how big you want each section. Also you may want to add another stitched line to make a pen pocket.

STEP EIGHT: Lastly we will be adding Velcro.

Cut two 1 3/4" strips of Velcro. Separate the pieces and sew them onto the straps. Sew one on the top of the strap and the other at the bottom of the strap where it meets the pocket section.

And that will do it!!!!

Your very own Cart Caddy ready to make your life that much easier!!!!!

As easy as this looks it takes about an hour to sew. The bias tape can be tricky. I must have bough a pack that was ironed weird becasue mine was hard to get it to keep straight.
Just take your time!

Lets be clear on this... Storm n. - a heavy fall of rain, snow, or hail, or a violent outbreak of thunder and lightning, unaccompanied by strong winds. Room n.- An area separated by walls or partitions from other similar parts of the structure or building in which it is located:
Storm Room n.-
A room for all the kiddies to take off shoes, hang backpacks and place misc. objects after storming home from school, games, or other activities!

It feels like forever I have been waiting on a good deal on a bench, back hanger combo to create the little nook by our Garage door into a "Storm Room". But I cant seem to find any for a price I would dare to pay for them... hence this project!!

It was so long ago I found this picture So Im not sure who to give credit to... (if it's you please tell me and ill be glad to give it!)
Anyway I thought it was such a fabulous Idea!!

So I am going to share it with you!

All you need are three items :

A bench

A Shelf (bench and shelf need to be same length

A sheet of Beadboard (found at Lowes or Home Depot)

Paint them the color of your choice , assemble, train the kids and you will forever feel more organized, less stressed, and self accomplished for creating such a masterpiece! Happy Decorating!!

HuikiLau Bannana Pancakes... heavenly

Kids Eat these up!!!

While living in Hawaii... learned a few things.

And I can tell you one of the best things I learned

Banana Pancakes.

Spending many mornings at the HukiLau Cafe I learned a whole new brand of breakfast and a whole new meaning to the word "PANCAKE"

So I got what they would give and mixed it with a little of my own!

and here is the result:

Banana Pancakes

(Can be doubled or so on...

this recipe makes about 10 pancakes!)

Ingredients

1C flour
3tsp Baking Powder
1tsp Salt
2 Eggs
2-3 Bananas (depending on how much you like)
1C Milk
1T Oil

Step 1

Combine Flour, Baking Powder, and Salt in a mixing Bowl #1

Step 2

Separate 2 Eggs putting whites in one smaller bowl(#2) and yokes in bowl with dry ingredients(#1)

Step 3

In bowl #1 add milk , oil and One smashed up bannana

and beat til mixed evenly

Step 4

Beat whites till they are as fluffy as you think they can get...

and pour into Bowl #1

Step #5

Do not Beat together!!

Stir together till mixed sufficiently and begin to cook on griddle

Step #6

While cooking on first side take sliced banana pieces and place in mix then flip when ready! Sometimes they stick to surfaces so you may want to spray before you cook.

Step #7

FEAST!

*If your like my husband you load on some peanut butter... then your syrup!

*Or If your like me... I like to use Xagave Sugar Free Syrup that is sweeter than honey!

I know we promised DIY... but I thought we should get to this first..

For those of you who haven't had time to get that Winter Garden in yet.

ITS NOT TOO LATE!! Infact im planting mine today!

Planting and keeping a garden we will agree isn't the easiest of jobs, but it all becomes worth it once you bite into that first tomato or carrot. And you can never go back to store bought foods!

A few tips for beginning Gardners

*Don't try and plant everything you want the first time! Many people plant everything they want and then become overwhelmed and let it go. Dont forget what it entails... watering weeding and caring. Start small and add crops over the years.

*Dont let weeds stick around! The weeds suck nutrients from the plants and not only can hurt them but can hurt the flavor! Dont get behind. When you go out to check on them just pull the little boogers. Its worth it!

*The easiest garden to start is going to be a box garden. Build up a couple rows of bricks or logs and fill it with compost , and soil. This is the easiest because you dont have to do any digging. It is very organized and its astheticly pleasing :)

*Pay attention to where the sun is in the yard! Sun = Healthy

Other than that... there are So many websites to let you know how to keep a garden in your side of the world! So be brave! Do it!

Here is a list of many of the Cool weather/Winter plants!

Snap peas and snow peas -Frost-hardy peas may be planted whenever the soil temperature is at least 45°F or plant heat-tolerant varieties in midsummer to late summer for a fall crop. Plant peas at least 1 to 1-1/2 inches deep and one inch apart. Approximately 60 days to harvest.
Cole crops: broccoli, cabbage, collards (frost hardy- can tolerate more cold weather in the late fall than other cole crops - 60-75 days to harvest), cauliflower, brussels sprouts, bok choy...
Carrots - Hardy, cool season biennial. Plant about 1/2 deep (no more than two or three seeds per inch). Takes 2 weeks to germinate and approximately 60+ days to mature.
Parsnips - Plant seeds 1/2 to 3/4 " deep. They are slow germinating. You can keep them in the ground over winter and harvest in spring for what most consider to be the best flavor!
Beets - Fairly frost hardy. Thin seedlings to 1-3 inches apart. Start successive plantings at 3 to 4 week intervals until midsummer. Takes approximately 60 days to maturity.
Onions - Winter onions are planted from sets formed at the tops of the plant in place of flowers. You must get a winter variety such as walking onion/Egyptian onion, and these are perennials so give them a permanent home. In August, plant the sets 1 inch deep. Space sets 4 inches apart.
Lettuce - Can be planted early spring or late summer. You may want to start lettuce seedlings in the shade and transplant when temperatures cool. Plant 1/2 inch deep, 12 inches apart.
Mesclun - A mixture of young, leafy greens including lettuce.
Spinach - Seed spinach in late summer for fall and winter harvest. Chill your spinach seeds in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks before planting.
Rutabagas/Turnips - A rutabaga is a cross between a cabbage and turnip. Turnips grow wild in Siberia. Turnips mature in two months and may be planted either in the spring, late summer or fall. You can eat the roots or leaves. Rutabagas mature in 3 months.
Chard - Plant seeds 1/2 to 3/4 inches deep.

Also, remember that cold frames, containers, indoor gardening and greenhouses extend your growing season too. Many people garden year-round. Where there's a will, there is almost always "a way."

Simple Sassy Wall Decor

You may have seen this before,
Here is a Simple project that is fun, and inexpensive to add some color to a room!

Or you could even take your kids to pick out fabrics to make a set for their own room!

Start by shopping around at thrift stores or in your grandma's or mothers craft closet and collect a few different sizes of these hoops.
They should cost from aroun $.10 to $1 a piece!

Or you can just go to your closest fabric or craft store to pick up the hoops and fabric!

Once you have them. Just decide what Coordinating fun fabric combination you would like to put on your wall and start to cut out a litle larger than the circle so you can glue town the excess fabrics. Or just go crazy with it like the picture above! You can go completely modern or totally vintage based on the fabrics you pick to choose wisely!

(For those of you who have never seen hoops before, you just take the two pieces apart, put fabric over smaller hoop and slide larger around the smaller to tighten and hold fabric in place!)

Pick which color you want to paint the rings if you even want to at all. The room I used them for was brown so I thought it would look best brown to tie in!
Then I would suggest spray paint! Its the fastest and easiest!

Now its time to add the finishing touches. Put the fabric in your dried hoops and screw them together tight around fabric then hot glue the excess fabric down to the back of the hoops.(Not to the fabric, to the wood).
**Make sure before you glue that the fabric is pulled down tight!**
Then hang on your wall in a fun combination,

And your done! Now go have some fun and do it!

BOO!! Block Letters

Here is an awesome Halloween project that is fast and User friendly! Holiday decorations can get so expensive. This project can cost you around ten dollars and you have the satisfaction of making it yourself! So Go for it!

Materials Needed:

Letters B,O,O...(can be found at a Hobby Lobby, Michaels or most craft stores.)
3 Orange and 3 Black pieces of scrapbook paper(Prefferably some cute Halloween prints)
Modge Podge
Foam Application brushes
Black Paint
Sand Paper
Misc black and Orange ribbons
Scissors
Box Cutter Blade or Crafters blade(seen in picture for step needed)

Once you have what you need you can get started!

Step #1
Take the letters and paint the inners and outers black. Go onto the surfaces just a little to hide if the paper isn't cut perfectly.( its not necessary to paint the entire surface since it will be covered). Move to step 2 fast while paint is still wet!

Step #2
Quickly place letter onto piece of desired paper to stamp the shape of the letter on it. This makes it alot easier to cut out and cut the back piece. (Don't worry about cutting centers. We will get to that later).

Step #3
After stamping the B and the O cut out one more "B" and 3 more "O"'s **Make sure to mirror the first cut out to make a total of 1 for each front and 1 for each back!**

Step #4
Font Sides. Get out that Modge Podge and your foam Brush. Apply enough to tack the paper and the letter together of the Modge Podge but not too much or it will make your paper bubble. After Applying paper use something with a even surface to press and slide toward letter edges to push out the excess adhesive from beneath the paper. I use the back of the Modge Podge Cap. Some use a Rolling Pin. (clean up excess modge podge) repeat for all front side surfaces.

Step #5
Once all are complete turn over and with blade cut out centers with one swift tracing cut. A sharp enough blade should give you a pretty clean cut but don't go to fast. If it catches it could tear paper.

Step #6
Once all the centers are cut out repeat step #4 and #5 for the backside!

Step #7
Almost Done! Just get some finishing done! Sand all the edges anywhere the paper edges meet the surface to give the paper a more "finished" look then add another coat of Modge Podge wait 20 min and add one more coat.

Step #8
EMBELLISH! I add a little ink to all the corners to antique a little and give a goulish ratty look! And take some random fun ribbons and tie around! You could also embellish with some bling if thats your style!

Whats awesome about this project is if you get sick of one combo of colors you can flip the letters around and have another! Please feel free to ask if you have any questions!

DiY Yardstick Coat Rack

Fun Fast and Easy!

Fount this Tutorial in my DIY Magazine and loved it! So easy so inexpensive and looks great, unique and vintage depending on how much antiquing you do!

So we really thought it should be shared with Everyone!

Here we go! Get your Shopping list ready!

Your Headed to a Lowes or a Home Depot

Yardstick Coatrack Materials:

1-inch plywood, cut to 6x24 inches
Five wood yardsticks
Wood glue
Wood stain
Polyurethane, matte or gloss
Three metal hooks with screws

Yardstick Coatrack Tools:

Metal straightedge
Pencil
Coping saw
Cotton rag
Paintbrush
Drill/driver

1. Lay the yardsticks on the plywood base, creating a pleasing arrangement. Use the straightedge and pencil to mark trim lines, making sure the yardsticks cover the face of the plywood. Trim the yardsticks to size with the coping saw.

2. Starting at the top edge of the plywood face, squeeze a bead of wood glue onto the base for the first yardstick. Press the yardstick in place, making sure to align its edges with the base. Repeat for the four remaining yardsticks, butting the edges.

3. Dip the cotton rag into wood stain (we used a golden oak finish) and rub onto the yardsticks to tint. Allow to dry.

Tip: To add jolts of color to vintage wood items, consider using vivid wood stains, which can be mixed to order at paint stores. The stains, in colors such as bright orange or blue, don’t obscure labels, wood grain, or other marks of character.

4. Brush on two coats of clear polyurethane. Allow to dry for two hours between coats.

5. Mark the position of the screws, spacing the hooks evenly across the face of the piece. Drill a pilot hole for each screw and then drive the screws. To mount the coatrack, drill pilot holes through the face at the four corners and use screws and wall anchors to attach it to the wall. Or place picture fasteners or wire on the back.

And there you have it! Super Cute Right? And so inexpensive and fun! Enjoy!

Make your own Christmas Ornaments!

Ribbon or Lace Christmas Ornaments

(We love the vintage feel of Lace Ornaments. They will be available at some of our holiday boutiques!!

Here you go!

Ribbon Ornaments

I got some Styrofoam balls (3 different sizes), and some straight pins at my favorite craft store.. Michaels.

Next, I looked thru some ribbon & picked out a few coordinating prints.

Then, I got started!

The ribbon ornaments were so easy to make! Here are some quick directions:

Cut the ribbon to overlap about 2 inches on the ball.

Once the ribbon is overlapped, put a straight pin through the Styrofoam ball. Keep doing this around the whole ball, one row at a time.

Before you pin down the last piece of ribbon, make a loop with a coordinating ribbon for it to hang and pin it down.

After you make the loop, pin in the last piece of ribbon.

If you want to hang a ribbon going the opposite direction, do it very last.

Hang on your tree, or wherever else!

Have fun.

Desk Makeover!

So This We inherited this Desk...

and it needed a MAJOR FACELIFT

so we gave it one and we ended up loving it so well that we decided to make it our loving checkout station! For those of you in need of some furniture makeovers for any old pieces you have... Here is about the fastest way to spice up an oldie...

What you need for this project-

*project piece

*Sand Paper

*Primer (optional)

*Paint

*Matte Spray Finish or Matte paint on Varnish

To spice up the drawers if you would like you will also need-

*Matte Modge Podge or Deco-podge

*Fabric or paper of choice

*Sponge Paint Brushes

*Some fun new Knobs or handles

Step #1 - Sand all surfaces you will be painting. I don't own a pro sander... so it is all by hand. This little tool from Home Depot saved me. Interchangeable papers that are cheap and throw away, I would recommend them to anyone. Go see what they have for you.. lots to pick from! Don' t sand it to death... just get the old finish of and little scuffs and scratches... but don't freak over all flaws... it gives the piece personality and shabbiness!

Step #2 - Once you have chosen your color you Need to determine whether or not you need a primer. When buying the color of paint just ask a rep if it will be strongly altered by the under color of your furniture... or just try a dab yourself and decide. For our we used black so it was a no brainer!

Step #3 - First Coat - We chose a Basic Black MATTE paint. Deciding the type of look you want is important... we didn't want gloss so we got matte! Make sure you cover everywhere you want to be covered, don't worry... you will more than likely be able to see streaks... these will be covered by ...

Step #4 - Second Coat - Apply evenly (and be sure you don't leave any drips)

Step#5 - That Shabby Look - Sand where Desired! Hit the corners hardest always! I like to sand kinda randomly so it is over the top but here and there... anywhere there is a lip of any sort... just rub down a little with some sand paper! It looks great letting the under color come through a little and makes an old piece of Furniture look almost new again!!

Step # 6 - Finish - Then apply your finish! Remember... watch for matte or gloss... We chose Matte once again!

(Optional Step # 7, 8 ...and that is all unless you are wanting to jazz up the drawers a little... then you can Modge podge some fabric or paper on! Here is a great tutorial on Modge Podging or Decopodge!) This Woman is Amazing!!!

So cute! I will be doing this... but for now until we choose the PERFECT pattern... brown drawers are great with us!

So have fun with your piece! This is about as easy as you can get! (Easiest is Spray paint.. but it almost impossible to apply that evenly and toxic)

So now you Know! And if you ever get sick of the color you chose! You know how to change it!
